About Dan
I am a Mechanical Engineering graduate with a strong academic background in mathematics and a genuine passion for helping students build confidence in the subject. My engineering training has developed my ability to think logically, break down complex problems, and explain ideas clearly — skills that are central to effective maths teaching.
I am motivated to teach because I know first-hand how much difference the right tutor can make. Maths can feel intimidating, but with clear explanations, patience, and encouragement, it becomes far more approachable and even enjoyable. I take a calm, supportive approach to tutoring and aim to create an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes as part of the learning process.
Alongside my academic background, I am enthusiastic, organised, and professional in my approach. I tailor lessons to each student’s needs, focusing on building strong foundations and steadily improving confidence and performance over time.
Outside of tutoring, I enjoy travelling, exploring new cultures, and staying active. I have spent extended time travelling through Australia and South-East Asia, where I volunteered, scuba-dived, and took on a range of physical challenges. I am passionate about the outdoors and regularly go wild camping in the Lake District and Peak District, as well as keeping active through the gym and bouldering. These experiences have helped me develop independence, adaptability, and strong communication skills, which I bring into my teaching.

I am a graduate with a strong academic background in mathematics, having studied Mathematics and Further Mathematics at A-Level and completed a degree in Mechanical Engineering. I also have previous experience working as a mathematics tutor, supporting students in developing both their subject knowledge and confidence.
I understand first-hand the importance of a positive student–teacher rapport in enabling effective learning. Being close in age to my students allows me to build strong, approachable relationships, helping them feel comfortable, relaxed, and confident during sessions rather than intimidated by the subject.
My teaching approach is tailored to each individual student. I begin by identifying the key topics they find most challenging and focus lessons around strengthening these areas. I reinforce learning through regular recap starters at the beginning of each session to consolidate understanding and ensure knowledge is retained over time. My aim is to make mathematics engaging, accessible, and manageable for every student I work with.
