I base my teachings on the information from my peers in the world of fitness, and on my counselors throughout college because this was the information that changed my life after years of looking for change to no avail. I strive to develop a connection with my students so that they can fully benefit from the information that I share with them. I have taken various high level college courses on communicating with others and the most effective ways to get someone to hold onto an idea or life altering information because the brains first response is to always reject that sort of information. I want to see success in my students because the issues we will be tackling together are issues that everyone struggles with from time to time, but coming out on top of them ultimately makes us better and happier with who we are.
I am a Communications Major on my way to getting a second Degree in Marketing, but most of my course work has dealt with Communications both in business and amongst our peers. Growing up I was never the popular kid, or the super athlete and I often times found this to be upsetting. Around the time that I entered college I decided that I wanted to change my life and that started with my desire to get into shape. I started off by doing all the wrong things as many people do. I figured that getting a gym membership and spending an hour or two in there everyday would solve all of my problems, but to my disappointment I was very wrong. At the end of my first two months I really had not developed any progress and I was beginning to lose motivation. Right as my hopes to get into shape were starting to wither away I made a gym friend who was in much better shape then myself and he started to let me in on some of his secrets to success. I started to follow his tips and did not stray away from the path that he had set me and within one month I had started to see more progress than I had in all of my time working out alone. The process from not fit to fit is not a quick one and it never will be, but after 11 months of working out with my newly found knowledge I was able to see abs for the first time in my life, which for many people is a big fitness goal. After finding some success in my fitness and nutrition I decided I wanted to tackle another big issue in my life, and that issue was just taking time to destress and not over work my brain with worries. This is something that almost all of suffer from from time to time. Sometimes life itself and the tasks in our life that we must complete can seem extremely overwhelming and it is hard to just take a step back and let your head clear of feelings of anxiety. I suffered from this a lot as I felt the pressures of school, work, and family all coming down on me at once. When this happens we can feel helpless and trapped, and often times this can cause us to just push our worries to the back of our mind and postpone dealing with them. This is what I often did and eventually I found that this was completely the wrong thing to be doing, even if by doing so It would make me feel some temporary stress relief. I felt the need to see a counselor at my old college about these sort of issues, and the advice she gave me I think of as being life altering advice to me as It effects the way I live to this day. What she shared with me helps me everyday to not become overwhelmed with the ten's or even hundreds of stress causing factors that we can be exposed to each and every day. As a result of this information I am easily able to unwind at the end of everyday and not feel the weight of the day. This allows me to go to bed relaxed and wake each morning feeling excited to get into the days tasks. I have shared this information that helped me out with many of my friends and peers after learning it, and many of them too have been able to benefit as I did. In my free time away from studies I have been working with people to help them push through and overcome some of these day to day issues that life can throw at us using the information that I personally found success with.
