About Stephen

I learned German in high school, but I acquired near-native fluency and accent from a neighbor who was a refugee after World War II. In college my professor asked whether I spoke German at home. I was chosen to be among 25 German teachers from Pennsylvania to participate in a summer language institute at the University of Bremen, Germany. I was cast as a “native speaker” after auditioning to be in The Learning Company’s 1997 CD-ROM, German For Everyone. In 17 years of teaching, 5 of my former students went on to study or work in Germany.

About the lesson

Humor is always an important component of a classroom atmosphere. I use drama, role playing, games, and songs. I tie the subject to the culture. I’ve spent a lot of time in the major German-speaking countries. You will laugh while learning.
