About Teresa

I am a retired woman from a property company. I have always loved to teach- doing talks seminars and conferences as a public speaker. One day I helped a neighbor's son with his homework in Afrikaans- and he blossomed so well and excelled at school- and I realized that I have a gift of teaching. I have always enjoyed the Afrikaans language. My passion for making the children come out of their shell and regain their self-confidence again is always priceless! I have a lot of patience and will try my best for them to reach their full potential. I have a great sense of humor and love making learning fun!

About the lesson

Teaching 15 pupils at the moment- ranging from Grade R to Grade 11- but prefer the Primary School learners. Teaching them the basics of phonics and able to read and understand Afrikaans. I prefer to do face to face lessons- as I love engaging with them-and seeing them understand the language for the first time! I am English speaking- but got 99% for my matric Afrikaans-my parents are Afrikaans speaking- I have a lot of patience- and have taken children from a fail in June exams to a 7 pass in December. They flourish under the personal and individual attention. I think they just got left behind in school class- and gave up.

Perfect! Teresa has a warm, encouraging approach that helped Kyle overcome his initial resistance to Afrikaans. She’s patient, keeps him engaged, and has managed to make the lessons something he genuinely enjoys. after just a few lessons, there’s been a clear improvement in both his marks and his confidence.
