About Leo

I enjoy the process of imparting knowledge and my love of music, as I have had the luck to receive kernels of understanding through various patient and less patient musicians I have met along the years. I have never been the most academic of students, and though it has been a source of stress and sometimes almost a reason to quit, I have been reminded countless times that music has many paths to mastery. I consider myself a lifelong student, and while on those travels, through soundscapes and countries, I know now that I have kernels of wisdom to impart, which I believe in doing joyfully, while developing a reverence for the musical landscape and sharpening one's focus, a lesson I myself am always refining. My sound is a mixture of the worlds I have inhabited, from Egypt to Spain, Mali to India, with a lot in between. If you're seeking an atypical way of learning with a melomaniac, maybe can walk together for a while.

About the lesson

I teach in an intuitive style, the idea being teaching self-expression and a start to music through improvisation, and fun. The primary focus is to nourish a lifelong love of music and the unfolding of creativity, and deconstructing feelings of inadequacy and entering the process of making music in real time, along with exercises to play around with sound and listening deeply, and finding one's way within a soundscape. My aim is to help beginners, from children to our elders develop without fear, to build a foundation of ease and enjoyment, and/or reshaping perceptions around music and talent. Also, rest assured, I will teach you chords and patterns at varying levels of difficulty depending on your needs and wants, which give a foundation for your understanding of the instrument. As well as working on melodies you enjoy, which will propel you towards learning through your favorite artists, who likely have a hand in your wanting to play and evolve.
