About Kyle
I started playing bass guitar when I was 13. Since my dad was a guitarist and my brother was a drummer, it was only natural that we form a rock band! So, I started playing gigs at an early age, and also played in my school jazz band. Back then, I wasn’t a great reader, but worked hard using my ears to learn my favorite bass lines, and to write my own.
When I got to college, and really got serious about my musicianship, the experience of learning by ear served me well as I concentrated on studying jazz and classical bass. My reading and knowledge of theory has long since caught up to my ears, but I have never lost the spirit of that kid who would play to albums for hours, dreaming of rocking a festival stage. I use that fun, creative spirit in all of my teaching, whether it be conducting my high school concert band, or teaching one on one.
I work really hard for my students, and have dedicated all of my life to spreading the joys of music, and helping students reach their potential.

Though bass is my primary instrument, I have 10 years of teaching experience as a 5-12th grade band director. I am an expert at helping musicians improve in all aspects of playing: technique, tone, chops, theory…all of it. My biggest strength is not in just knowing what to practice, but teaching a student *how* to practice.
I have:
-20 years of professional gigging/recording experience in rock, pop, funk, and jazz.
-A music performance degree in Jazz as well as an education degree. I have a knack for teaching jazz improvisation and music theory.
-Experience teaching beginners and advanced students, young and old.
Whether we are working on double bass etudes, how to walk on a jazz standard, or learning how to play like your favorite rock bassists, I will make lessons fun and challenging. I am confident in helping any bassist reach their potential!
