About Michael
I like to tell my students at the beginning of each year - I am a human first. My strength as a teacher lies in my abilities to build trusting relationships, to communicate effectively, and to help students believe in what they can do.
I have been working with middle and high schoolers since 2006 in both ELA and Social Studies/History. I have produced strong test results over multiple years, including helping turn scores around from prior years.
More than that, I get to the heart of what education is about - developing the skills to help learners have the power to determine the paths of their lives. Education is power, and I always lead from that premise.

My experiences as a learner and teacher with ADHD makes my teaching method unique, and effective. My lessons do not only include a focus on academic skills, but also on how we can manage our particular focus and stamina issues when doing heavy thinking work for long periods of time. A typical lesson will depend on what kind of learner I'm working with, because each will have their own needs and strengths.
Academically, I can help with reading comprehension, literature analysis, nonfiction reading strategies, writing (essay, creative, mechanics, planning, revising, editing), test prep, and public speaking.
