About Autumn
I am a dedicated and experienced educator with a strong background in both literacy and STEM instruction. I have taught 5th grade reading and 6th grade science, and I have also gained valuable experience working with younger learners through classroom observations, student teaching, and long-term substitute roles in elementary settings. These experiences have shaped my ability to support a wide range of learners and adapt my teaching to meet individual needs.
My tutoring approach is student-centered, structured, and supportive. I focus on building a strong foundation by breaking skills into manageable steps, modeling clear strategies, and guiding students toward independence. I believe that confidence plays a critical role in learning, so I create a positive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, taking risks, and growing academically.
Each session is thoughtfully planned and tailored to the student’s goals. I use a combination of direct instruction, guided practice, and independent application to ensure students not only understand the material but can apply it successfully. I also incorporate ongoing feedback and progress monitoring to track growth and adjust instruction as needed.
What sets me apart is my ability to connect with students while maintaining high expectations. I bring patience, consistency, and professionalism to every session, along with proven instructional strategies that support both academic achievement and confidence-building.
I work primarily with elementary and middle school students, with a strong focus on reading, comprehension, writing, and foundational academic skills. I am especially passionate about helping younger learners develop the skills and confidence they need to succeed long-term.
Families and students can expect clear communication, reliable scheduling, and a committed partner in the learning process. My goal is not only to help students improve their performance but to help them feel capable and confident in their abilities.

My approach to tutoring is centered around building confidence, creating meaningful connections to the content, and meeting students where they are. As a classroom teacher, I’ve learned that no two students learn the same way, so I focus on adapting my instruction to fit each student’s needs rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach. I want students to feel supported, capable, and comfortable asking questions.
I use a combination of differentiated instruction and scaffolded support to help students grow. This means I break skills down into manageable steps, model what success looks like, and gradually release responsibility to the student.
Some techniques I regularly use include:
Guided practice with immediate feedback
Think-alouds to model reading and problem-solving strategies
Interactive questioning to check understanding
Real-world connections to make learning relevant
Flexible pacing based on student progress
Because of my background in both reading and STEM, I also focus heavily on critical thinking and helping students explain their reasoning—not just get the right answer.
A typical tutoring session with me is structured but flexible:
Warm-Up (5 minutes)
Quick review or skill check to activate prior knowledge
Mini-Lesson (10–15 minutes)
Direct instruction on a targeted skill (for example, reading comprehension strategies or breaking down a math problem)
Guided Practice (15–20 minutes)
We work through problems or texts together while I provide support and feedback
Independent Practice (10–15 minutes)
The student tries on their own while I observe and step in as needed
Wrap-Up and Reflection (5 minutes)
Review what was learned and set a goal for next time
What sets me apart is my real classroom experience and my ability to build strong relationships with students. I’ve worked with a wide range of learners, including struggling students, advanced learners, and those with different learning needs.
I also bring:
A strong foundation in literacy instruction (especially reading comprehension and engagement)
Experience making lessons engaging and age-appropriate
Patience and the ability to explain concepts in multiple ways
A focus on building confidence, not just improving grades
Students don’t just learn the material—they start to believe they can learn it.
My tutoring is best suited for:
Elementary and middle school students (especially grades K–6)
Students who need support in reading, comprehension, and writing
Students who need help with science or general academic skills
Learners who may feel behind, overwhelmed, or need extra encouragement
Students who benefit from structured, supportive, and engaging instruction
I especially love working with younger students, as that’s where my passion is, but I’m comfortable supporting upper elementary and middle school learners as well.
