About Amy
I have been teaching for twelve years at the middle school level. As a collaborative special education teacher, I had the benefit of working in many grade levels as well as numerous subject areas. I empathize with students who struggle academically while also encouraging my students through difficult tasks. Building the confidence of my students through patient guidance is an area of strength, and I can make positive connections with my students. A working relationship built on trust and compassion helps create a safe environment to learn.

I believe learning can be fun when information is presented in different ways. Children spend 7 hours a day in school, so tutoring shouldn't be a chore. I prefer my students see me as an extension of their preferred activities. As a former special education teacher, I differentiated lessons to help students master difficult topics. Strategies included pre-teaching new material, highlighting important information, helping students make connections to new material, test preparation, and other best practices. I believe it's important for students to learn new material through the process of "I do, we do, you do" in order to increase confidence and positive outcomes.
