About Alexis

I am a Flinders University Drama Centre graduate who has trained with some of Australia's leading artists across film, television and theatre. These artists include Rosalba Clemente ('The Seagull', State Theatre Company of South Australia), Renato Musolino ('Animal Farm', State Theatre Company of South Australia), Tiffany Lyndall-Knight ('Battlestar Galactica', 'Red Dog'), and Tom Healey (Associate Dramaturg at Red Stitch Theatre) among others. I have undertaken screen and theatre studies and have developed extensive knowledge into script analysis - determining 'beats' (Stanislavskian Acting Methodology), understanding sentence structure, working with actions, extracting character motivation and physical action within a scene, and much more.

Outside of my own practice in analysing scripts for film and theatre performances, I have worked with various writers on developing their work. This has involved providing constructive feedback on the dramatical structure of a scene (e.g. why a scene may or may not 'work') and clarifying character differentiation and motivation.

About the lesson

Script analysis is used by many artists and practitioners such as actors, directors, writers, film makers or even designers. It is a crucial skill which artists in film and television will use to create informed artistic choices, and learning how to analyse scripts effectively and efficiently will help improve the quality of your work dramatically.

These lessons are targeted at high school students, young aspiring artists and even established artists who are eager to improve or learn new skills in script analysis. Lessons may include a mixture of analysing film scenes to understand why artistic choices work or don't work, deconstructing film and theatre scripts to understand their structure, learning how to recognise character intention and motivation within a scene, and learning how to create thoughtful artistic choices in writing and performing. These lessons will be highly interactive with students actively participating in learning rather than being lectured. This gives each student the opportunity to learn and apply new skills during each session.

Depending on the student, lessons can be tailor made to suit their individual needs. My extensive training at one of the Nation's most recognised acting institutes, and my professional work as a theatre actor gives me the experience to help students make strong artistic choices.

In your free first lesson, your will be given the opportunity to discuss your goals and the skills you wish to develop. Together, we will formulate a plan on how to structure each lesson to help develop or fine tune your skills. The knowledge you will gain not only helps in analysing existing scripts, but it will also help artists write their own scripts.

If students cancel their appointment 24 hours before their scheduled lesson, no fee will be charged. If a student cancels their appointment within 24 hours before their lesson, a $15 cancellation fee may incur.
