About Araks
I earned my bachelor’s degree at Yerevan State Linguistic University.
Later while working at college I witnessed a considerable shift in the demand for academic subjects: political science, economics, international relations, and law grew in popularity. Thus, it was critical for EFL teachers to move beyond the functional English syllabus and to start providing a content-rich, high-standard curriculum that prepared English learning students to become academically successful in content learning. Completion of both the teaching Knowledge Test (TKT), Cambridge ESOL certificate course, and Master program in Political Science gave me a better understanding of various teaching methodologies (e.g. TBA, TTT, PPP, etc.) along with a profound grasp of the discipline. This enabled me to tailor interdisciplinary content-based curricula for ESP.
In 2010 I moved to Canada where I continued my pursuit of professional aspiration by taking a TESL course with an extensive practicum at the language school and doing a Master’s degree in Education, SLT (second language teaching) at Toronto University. Both volunteering at an ESL school and later working as a substitute teacher at a college in Toronto provided me with a broad spectrum of experience in teaching, which helped me with professional advancement.

My name is Araks. I have been teaching English both as a second language and for special purposes for more than 20 years in classes of 12-17 students (adults), as well as one-to-one.
One of the effective ways of my teaching is to develop a comprehensible and stimulating lesson plan which incorporates more than one teaching methodology, embraces a variety of educational materials to challenge students intellectually, and is tailored to facilitate all the learning styles. My teaching philosophy is to guide rather than to lead, i.e. through challenging activities and open-ended tasks to encourage students to apply to the prior knowledge, experience, values, and beliefs, A motivating environment which is aimed at strengthening students’ self-esteem is the cornerstone of a successful and productive teaching/learning process.
