About Katie
I am a Canadian born and raised ESL teacher. I'm from Vancouver, Canada but currently live in a small town near the Rocky Mountains in Alberta. I majored in Environmental Studies at the University of Waterloo and later completed my TESOL certificate for teaching English. I worked at a language school downtown Vancouver from 2015 to 2017 where I taught all levels of English from pre-beginner to upper intermediate. In August 2017 I moved to Hokkaido, Japan and taught English to junior high school students. I also ran a weekly English conversation group for adults in the community.

My teaching method is to build confidence through conversation. I believe that the strongest English speakers are the ones who are comfortable striking up and maintaining conversation with others. I like to get to know my students and share my own personal stories with them as well. Developing strong rapport is essential to the way I teach because I like to use relateable examples to introduce vocabulary and grammar. I find that students remember things we've discussed in class much better when I've used an example pulled from their own life or a conversation we have had. My lessons are current, customized, and captivating.

Students who do not show up for a scheduled lesson without giving any notice will be charged for 50% of the hourly rate for the first hour.
Students who cancel 30 minutes or less before a scheduled lesson will be charged $5.00.
Students can cancel without any penalties up until 30 minutes prior to a scheduled lesson.
