About Shayna

Hello, English learners!

I am a certified Canadian ESOL instructor with over 10 years of experience. I am also an IELTS examiner, educational consultant, singer, actor and freelancer who was based out of Japan for 8 years.

I have many years of experience teaching both children and adults, and have taught in private language schools, universities, corporate businesses, and online with companies in Japan, South Korea, China, Israel, and Saudi Arabia.

I am a graduate of the University of Toronto, with an Honor’s BA in Humanities (English Specialist and Classics Major), and hold certifications in TESOL, TEFL, and IELTS examination.

Also, I have been featured on numerous educational English language TV and radio programs in Japan, and was a co-editor of a successful IELTS textbook.

When not working, I enjoy practicing various Martial Arts, as well as sewing, reading, watching movies, and getting involved in community theatre and film as a singer, actor, and stage manager.

About the lesson

I am sure to do a full needs-assessment at the start of any course, so that I can design all my lessons to the specific goals and needs of each student. I am careful to maintain two-way communication so that students can always tell me what's working for them, what study strategies and materials work best for them, and how much self-study they can handle between classes. I like to recommend a variety of materials, from articles, structural exercises, listening, reading, and videos to keep the classes engaging, while always making sure they are relevant to the student's English goals.

Details

To cover the time and resources used to plan for lessons, there is a cancellation policy:

- cancel more than 12 hours before the session = no charge
- cancel within 12 hours of the session = 50% charge
- no-show or last-minute cancellation (ie. within 1 hour of the session) = full charge
