About Maya

I’m a passionate educator, mentor, and movement practitioner with over 10 years of experience working with students in teaching, coaching, and facilitation settings. My background includes ESL teaching, facilitation, dance, yoga, wellness, and one-on-one student support, which has helped me develop a patient, adaptable, and encouraging teaching style.
As a dancer and certified yoga teacher, I understand that every person learns differently. I bring creativity, empathy, and strong communication skills into my sessions, creating a supportive environment where students feel comfortable learning at their own pace and building confidence in themselves. My experience working with diverse age groups and learning styles has taught me how to tailor lessons to meet individual needs while keeping sessions engaging and approachable.
I’m especially passionate about helping students feel empowered in their learning process. Whether I’m teaching movement, guiding personal development, or supporting academic growth, I focus on creating meaningful connections, clear communication, and a positive learning experience that helps students feel seen, motivated, and capable.

About the lesson

My approach as a tutor is student-centered, adaptable, and focused on creating a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and building confidence. I believe learning is most effective when students feel engaged, understood, and actively involved in the process.

I use a combination of guided instruction, active discussion, visual examples, and practical application to help students understand concepts rather than simply memorize information. I tailor my teaching style to each student’s learning needs, whether they learn best through conversation, repetition, hands-on practice, movement-based learning, or visual breakdowns. I also prioritize patience, encouragement, and clear communication to help students feel motivated and capable.

A typical lesson begins with checking in on the student’s goals, challenges, or previous material. From there, I introduce or review concepts in a structured but flexible way, using examples and interactive exercises to reinforce understanding. Throughout the lesson, I encourage questions and adapt the pace as needed. I usually end sessions with a summary of key takeaways, practice suggestions, and strategies students can use independently between lessons.

What sets me apart as a tutor is my background in facilitation, wellness, and one-on-one client work, which has strengthened my ability to connect with people in an empathetic and individualized way. I bring a calm, trauma-informed, and non-judgmental approach to teaching, helping students feel safe and supported while also encouraging growth and accountability. I focus not only on academic improvement, but also on helping students develop confidence, self-awareness, and sustainable learning habits.

My lessons are best suited for beginner to intermediate learners, students seeking individualized support, and anyone who benefits from a patient and personalized teaching style.
