About Beryl

Hello and welcome! I hold a Master’s degree in Linguistics from Lancaster University in the UK, where I had the opportunity to study alongside classmates from countries such as the UK, Turkey, Indonesia, and Japan. This experience broadened my worldview and taught me to approach both teaching and life with an open and inclusive mindset. For the past 12+ years, I have been dedicated to teaching in China, where I obtained a University Teacher Qualification Certificate and taught College English and IELTS at the university level. As an experienced IELTS instructor, I have helped countless students master test-taking strategies and achieve excellent results. I have also taught phonetics and worked with learners ranging in age from 5 to 60 years old—guiding some from not knowing the alphabet or pinyin to being able to hold daily conversations with confidence. Seeing this progress has been one of my greatest sources of joy and motivation as a teacher. In my classes, I pay close attention to details, especially during the stages of vocabulary building and pronunciation practice. I believe that accurate pronunciation and strong foundations are essential for effective communication and long-term success in language learning. I also enjoy connecting with students, learning from their perspectives, and keeping my own sense of curiosity and lifelong learning alive. Meeting people from different cultures and backgrounds inspires me to continue growing as both a teacher and a learner. Currently, I am pursuing a Master of Teaching at Curtin University, where I am refining my teaching methods to better serve my students. With my professional training, international background, and passion for teaching, I am confident that I can support you in achieving your language goals—whether that is passing exams, improving communication skills, or discovering the joy of learning a new language.

About the lesson

My Approach to Tutoring and Teaching Teaching Methodology When learning Chinese, I believe that listening and speaking are the foundations. My lessons focus on practical communication, with activities that simulate real-life scenarios—from daily conversations to workplace interactions. I also provide structured support for students preparing for different levels of Chinese language exams (such as HSK), ensuring they gain both accuracy and confidence. To make classes engaging, I combine traditional instruction with interactive methods like role play, cultural topics, and multimedia resources. Lesson Length A typical class lasts 1 hour, which is long enough for effective learning while keeping lessons focused and enjoyable. Qualifications and Experience I am a TESOL Advanced Certified Instructor with over 12 years of teaching experience. I have taught students ranging in age from 5 to 60 years old, both in one-on-one tutoring and large classroom settings. I hold a university teaching qualification in China, and my background equips me with diverse teaching strategies to meet the needs of different learners.
