WORK HISTORY
• Recording Artist/Songwriter/Composer/Session Musician (1967– 1985)
• Played guitar, piano, clarinet, sax, sitar and sang on hit recordings by George Harrison, Ringo Starr, John Lennon, Dr. John, Harry Nilsson, Carly Simon, Art Garfunkel, Lon & Derrek and many more.
• Recording Artist and Songwriter for Bali Hi records, single 1967. Jacob’s Creek – CBS/Sony 1969-1970)
Album for Apple Records (1971-1973) and A&M Records 1974-1976.
• Song Writer (1977– 1979) with Screen Gems, Colgems, and EMI Music. Has written over 500 songs.
• Senior Executive Officer for Harmony Records (1980 – 1983) Managed product development, distribution and coordination of artists' recording projects.
• Executive Manager and Director (1982 – 1984) of Champ, Inc.,(Children and Music Project), a California based non-profit musical education organization. An exemplary program sponsored by the City of Los Angeles, UCLA and affiliated with the UNI Conference Center to demonstrate the tremendous power of musical education in raising self esteem and producing discipline in young people through music.
• Founder and Director (1984-1985) of Kids, Inc. (Kindness is Doing Something),
a California non-profit service organization. He was responsible for producing fund-raising albums
and videos for the development of inner city children in Los Angeles.
• Founded Imagine a Better World Productions (1985–present) “Media for Conscious Change” and has served as President/CEO and Producer/Executive Producer on the projects below.
• “Rock-N-Rudolph's” (1986 – 1987) Developed and produced the first “test” project for Imagine a Better World Productions that raised over $20,000 during the ten days of Christmas when it was available at the King Soopers grocery stores in Denver.
• “Give A Little Love” (1988 – 1989) Developed and produced the “Give A Little Love” Fundraising and Market Branding Project for The Boy Scouts of America with Ben Vereen, Ringo Starr and George Harrison. Introduced at Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade by President Ronald Reagan on NBC-TV to 55 million viewers. Provided the opportunity for scouting to 200,000 new boys. Mayor Koch accepted a $30,000 check from the first week’s sales. The Scouts sold the product door to door and raised hundreds of thousands of dollars and got an act of congress to change the Boy Scout Creed into a Rap song
• “The American Soviet Youth Orchestra”(1988 – 1992) premiered at the Kennedy Center, conducted by
Zubin Mehta. First ever effort by the United States and the Soviet Union to form a single orchestra. Sponsored by American Express and American Airlines. Produced the inaugural recordings from the Kennedy Center and Lincoln Center concerts. Recorded at Bolshoi Hall, Moscow, and Oberlin College on the 22 city world tour. The video from the tours, “East Meets West in Music,” was the highest rated classical music program in the history of PBS television. Featured on Sunday Morning with Charles Kuralt.
• "Pulse of the Planet" (1993 – 1994) supported fifteen environmental organizations in partnership with Turner Broadcasting (“TBS”) and the first ever environmental television series “EarthBeat”. Stevie Wonder headlined a cast of socially conscious musical performers. Lon became a member of Ted Turner’s Better World Society. “Good Housekeeping” magazine featured the recording project on its Front Cover.
• “Denver at the Apollo” (1995 – 1999) involved over 2,000 “high risk” inner-city youth. The production culminated in a broadcast quality video-taping at the Paramount Theatre with over 105 local performers, supported by city officials, leaders of the business community, sports figures and educators, all drawn together to create positive alternative behaviors to gang membership and violence - by creating 'peak experiences,’ positive social responsibility, job skills and socially acceptable mental imagery.
• “The Dance of Life” (2004 – 2012) The score and book written by Mr. Van Eaton was reviewed by Joseph Eger, President of the National Association of American Composers and Conductors (NAACP), author of “Einstein’s Violin” and creator of the Symphony for United Nations. Mr. Eger sponsored Mr. Van Eaton to become a United Nations delegate.
• Adjunct Professor (2004 – 2013) Arapahoe Community College, teaching the Art of Recording and his MUSIX system of perceiving sound. Teaches students of all ages in his private home recording studio.
• (1992 – present) Mr. Van Eaton continues to produce, hold workshops and record in all genre. Notable specialty Choir Recordings include: Muungano - The National Choir of Kenya and The Musicians of St. Clair who sing and perform at the Vatican. He produced and co–wrote a Pop Hit Recording in 2015 that reached #6 on the National Charts.
• (2013 – present) As an extension of the “The Dance of Life” project, Mr. Van Eaton created and patented a new theatre technology, LIVIES™ Live Interactive Visual Immersion Entertainment Shows. He relocated to the East coast to further the development of productions and has an option on the script.
