About Deborah
I taught for a year at the Shane English School, to Chinese students, with mixed class abilities. I have also taught different GCSE subjects as a supply teacher, teaching some French and Spanish classes, as well as English, Maths and science at different schools. I am adaptable and can work around any schedule or time to suit you.
At Shane I taught different age groups, from 5 yr to 15 yr olds, as well as teaching a 37 yr old mature student, and the classes had between 6 and 18 per lesson. As a supply teacher, the classes were about 30 students per class from 11yr to 18yr olds.
The students I taught at Shane were all at different levels and when I left the school their test scores were 98% or above on both their written an oral test for the classes I had from the beginning. One class I inherited, the first test paper I took their test scores only two students achieved 98% or above, and the rest were about 92-93%. This time 99% of the students reached 99.5% or above, and one student achieved 96% for both the oral and written tests.
As a supply teacher I did not see the results of my efforts, as the classes I taught were for 1 or 2 day's per school, returning to different schools during the year but having different classes, usually handing out worksheets to be handed in at the end of the lesson. I helped by showing them how to complete the worksheets and answering questions when asked, or helping them to find the answers themselves by getting them to read and break down the questions, as well as using rhetorical questions, for example: What do you think Juliet will do because of this action?
The ability to be flexible and think on my feet means that I can change a lesson to follow the students needs, but having a structured lesson is needed to help students learn. This structure can be adapted depending on the situation, for example if a student has a letter they need to write, or if they want to practice just their spoken skills for an interview. Whatever the situation, being able to adapt is essential in any situation.

I am a mature Combined Honours Upper Second graduate in English Literature and History. I have completed a TEFL degree with a "Teaching Advanced Grammar" certificate, and have taught at the Shane English School in Changzhou China.
The age groups I tutored were 5yr olds to 14yr old, and a private student aged 37yrs old, who wanted to improve her spoken and written English due to working for an international company. Each age group had different abilities and ways of learning. Young children love interactive games, songs, and stories, while older students like more challenging games, for example, the flashcards are face down, and they have to remember the order of the cards by turning them over one by one, saying the word before they do so.
I would plan each lesson with the language point and vocabulary to be learned that week. To plan each lesson, I would assess the abilities of the students and plan each activity according to both their age and abilities to ensure they had a fun and enjoyable time. To ensure all the language points for that lesson were covered, I would also look at the course guide and textbooks. I would include games and activities which encouraged the students to speak, read, or write English. Homework was also given out to be completed and returned the next lesson.
I am always approachable, and students could contact me through the TA's or on WeChat if they had any questions about the lesson, or if they needed to put together a piece of writing for a competition, which I would help by highlighting their spelling or grammatical errors. To do this I would highlight the incorrect part, for example, "How do you spell (word)?", or "This paragraph does not sound correct, remember past tense."
My being approachable, even when I am not teaching, is part of being a teacher, and this helps to build a good rapport with my students.
