About Mia
My undergraduate degree at Belmont University included a full minor in Applied Mathematics, covering statistics, college algebra, and pre-calculus. I have been tutoring math subjects for 5 years — working with students from 3rd-grade multiplication tables all the way up to college first-year statistics and introductory calculus. I am particularly known among my students for my ability to explain concepts in multiple different ways until one of them clicks — because I truly believe every concept can be explained simply if you find the right angle. In 2023, I helped a college freshman at Belmont — who was placed in remedial math at the start of her semester — pass her introductory statistics course with a B and avoid academic probation. She told me afterward that it was the first time in her life she had ever actually understood a math class. That moment meant the world to me. I also helped four high school students prepare for the SAT math section in 2022, and all four improved their scores by at least 80 points. I use Desmos, Khan Academy, and custom handwritten-style digital worksheets in my sessions, and I am always happy to work directly through your actual class assignments so that learning happens in the most relevant context possible. Math does not have to be scary — and I am living proof that anyone can get good at it with the right support.

You know what I hear from almost every new math student I meet? "I am just not a math person." And every single time, I smile — because by the end of our first few sessions together, that sentence starts to sound less and less true to them. Here is the secret: there is no such thing as "not a math person." There are just people who have not yet had math explained in a way that works for their brain. And that is exactly what I am here to fix. My math lessons are always relaxed, never rushed, and completely judgment-free. I know what it is like to feel totally lost in class, too embarrassed to raise your hand, and then go home and still not understand the homework. That spiral is so common — and it is also completely breakable. We just need to find the gap, fill it in, and rebuild your confidence from the ground up. Here is how my lessons work: I always start by figuring out exactly where you are comfortable and where things start to feel shaky. No test, no pressure — just a quick, friendly conversation and a couple of problems to get a sense of where we are starting. Then we build from there, one concept at a time, at a pace that feels right for you. I use real-world examples for everything — because why learn about percentages in a vacuum when we can talk about sale prices, tips at a restaurant, or sports statistics instead? For K–12 students I cover all of basic and intermediate math: arithmetic, fractions, decimals, ratios, pre-algebra, algebra I and II, geometry, and trigonometry. For high school and college-bound students I teach pre-calculus — functions, limits, exponentials and logs — and calculus covering derivatives and integrals. For statistics, we work through mean, median, mode, standard deviation, probability, distributions, data visualization, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing, and regression — with real datasets and real examples that make the concepts stick. I am also great at SAT and ACT math prep — I know the patterns and tricks those tests love, and I make sure my students do too. Come as you are — we will figure it out together!
