About Federico

I started studying saxophone at the age of 7 at a jazz institute in Necochea, Buenos Aires, Argentina. Then I graduated as a music teacher, specialised in saxophone at the "Gilardo Gilardi" classical music conservatory, La Plata, Buenos Aires, Argentina. The last years I have been trained with private jazz teachers, such as Ricardo Cavalli and Guillermo Romero, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Recently I finished my master in jazz performance at CODARTS (Netherlands). Throughout my 29 years of training, I have participated in different groups including 2 classical music orchestras, 3 jazz orchestras and 1 popular music orchestra. Also participate in different formations, playing the saxophone, the clarinet, singing, as a composer and arranger. I taught jazz ensemble classes, both at the Lennon music institute, La Plata, Buenos Aires, Argentina. As well as within the jazz association La Plata.

If a class is well given, the content of it is well above the value of the class, unfortunately in the student role, it takes us a long time to appreciate it. In my case, 5 years after the last class with Ricardo Cavalli (Professor from Argentina) I am still learning from his lessons. The value of what one can offer by giving a class is very high and I am willing to return what was given to me. Check out my videos on YouTube: (concealed information) "(...) I recommend listening to the saxophonist before choosing him as a teacher (...)". For any ages and levels. Nothing is impossible if it is properly learnt. I’ll work personally for each student and based on his/her objectives. Basic level: Sound is developed in a practical and effective manner, as well as the tuning and connouncement of all notes in its different positions. The procedure is intended to allow the student to play different tunes in his instrument in a short period of time. The musical reading and the development of useful harmonic and rhythmic techniques will also be incorporated into the improvisation. Methodology for advanced students: very hard work! ;) We'll educate the rhythm perception as well as harmonic and melodic. We'll improve technique and sound. We will work on the composition and development of personal targets.

  • When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?

I started when I was 7 years old. I have been passionate about music since I was little. The first record I bought was one by Louis Armstrong, when he was 10 years old. Then I kept listening to the big swing bands, like Count Basie, Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, etc. And since then, music has been a fundamental part of my life and I am grateful for it.
  • Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

Cannonball Adderley is the saxophonist I admire the most.
  • Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

The most riveting course I can give is being yourself with the instrument. Improvise naturally and enjoying the process to create music on the spot.
  • What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

All the instruments are complicated in a high level.
  • What are your keys to success?

Developing your technique, your repertoire and your ear harmonically, rhythmically and melodically.
  • Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

I wish they were still alive :)

    -Cannonball
    -Charlie Parker
    -Wayne Shorter

I would like to ask them many things, not only about the saxophone but also about life. The energy from them was so special. It is impossible to get that far if you do not develop your soul. I'm sure they had some great advice to give.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

When I was ten years old I went up for the first time to do improvisation in the jazz orchestra of my city:

When I start to improvise I can't find the key and all the notes that came out of my instrument sounded very bad. At the end, I go downstage and stay in the pool area waiting for the orchestra to leave. When the orchestra finishes playing, my teacher approaches me and tells me that he was ashamed, that he shouldn't play the sax, and that it wasn't my thing.
That day I went to sleep hugging the book of scales, promising myself never again to confuse a key.
Years later I ended up being the first saxophonist in the orchestra and on several occasions congratulated by that teacher.

Although the story is quite sad, it helps as an example that no matter what people think, the most important thing is to focus on what you love.
  • What are the small details that make you a Superprof in music?

I adapt to the student's needs, I want them to be motivated and enjoy the learning process. My goal is that they have no limitations so they can go as far as they want to go.
