About Mat
I am currently studying a 4-year integrated-international theoretical physics course at the University of Leeds, with the international year being in Auckland, New Zealand. My international year has allowed me to experience other cultures which I’ve found really fulfilling. Not only has it bettered my education but has granted me with a better perception on life.
I also enjoy reading non-fiction – the book I’ve read most recently being Man’s Search for Meaning which details the struggles of today’s society due to the decline in animalistic tendencies, and how this phenomenon leads to existential problems. Relativity has always interested me, so I’ve also read Gravitation - a 1300-page book which perfectly describes the ins and outs of Einstein’s general relativity from the perspective of Reimann Manifolds. I feel this book should be read by anyone interested in physics and I would very much enjoy teaching this material one day.
Spending time with my family is also something that is an important part of my life – my youngest sister has an extremely inquisitive nature so she particularly enjoys me teaching her mathematics that is far more challenging than she would learn at school.
Finally, I am very interested in coding and enjoy using my free time writing programs. For over a year, I have been teaching my friend to code, from the very basics to deeper level game development. Our recent project includes a computerisation of q-cards to increase the speed of revision while reducing paper and ink usage – we are looking at integrating data mining to create the questions required for each q-card.

My teaching method includes a detailed analysis of the work using a camera, pen and paper. The theory is learnt first while including prime examples continously with student integration included throughout each question. If any part is not understood, the work will be looked at from a different perspective to give a deeper understanding of the syllabus.
