About Melanie
I am a third-year Computer Science student who is offering GCSE Maths and Computer Science tutoring. Having studied both subjects at A level and continuing to study Computer Science at university, I have a strong understanding of the underlying principles and problem-solving approaches needed to succeed in both subjects.
While I do not have any formal tutoring experience, I do have some informal experience through assisting teachers with GCSE Maths lessons, as well as helping them with the subject in an after-school Maths club. In addition to this, I have completed both GCSEs and A-levels in Maths and Computer Science and am currently on track to achieve a 2:1 in my degree. Overall, I believe that these experiences have given me a strong foundation in both Mathematics and Computer Science, as well as significantly improving my problem-solving skills.

I aim to tailor my lessons to a student's individual needs, from solidifying their understanding of the fundamentals to working through more challenging topics, improving their general problem-solving skills and exam technique in the process. I want to encourage an environment where students feel free to ask questions, helping them to develop a deeper understanding of the key concepts within each topic, especially those which are often overlooked in schools.
My lessons would focus on improving students' core skills, practising exam-style questions and developing effective problem-solving strategies. I would first focus on the initial concepts behind a topic by working through a few simple questions based on them, as difficulties with a new topic are often caused by minor misunderstandings of fundamental concepts. I would then move on to explaining the different approaches students can use to solve problems, before practising questions of increasing difficulty.
I offer online lessons and have a highly flexible schedule; I am happy to support both GCSE and higher GCSE maths students. In addition, I offer a free introductory lesson to discuss goals and areas to focus on, as well as ensuring my teaching style is a good fit for the student. After this lesson, additional lessons are available at £20 an hour.
