About Zoe
I am a current maths student at the University of Sussex, in my final year of my bachelor's; but looking to go into postgraduate study of mathematics after. I am particularly interested in analysis, abstract algebra and probability theory.
I have loved maths from a young age and would like to share that passion with others. Maths often has a reputation of being really scary; but I fundamentally believe that anyone is capable of doing well in maths; it’s a fascinating, beautiful subject that rewards both rigour and creativity. I hope to pass on my knowledge to students so they can gain not just a deep understanding of ideas, but also firsthand experience of how awesome mathematics really is.

The core thing I want to give my students is not just an understanding of certain topics, but also a greater understanding of mathematics as a whole and confidence as they move further in their mathematical education.
My method of teaching will not be how mathematics is taught at school. Rather than jumping into ideas with no context or motivation, we will build up concepts from scratch. I will show how concepts that students struggle with are really extensions of what they already know, guiding them through how we can think about these concepts in a way that makes sense. I offer a hands-on learning approach; mathematics is an active subject and that's exactly how we'll approach it. Once we've build up the concepts, we'll put that knowledge and understanding to the test with problems. We will go through these step-by-step together, before giving the student the chance to work on these problems by themselves. We can then go over any misunderstanding; I do not want my students to feel afraid of making mistakes; wrestling with an idea until you get it is how you really learn in maths.
In my lessons, there is no such thing as a stupid question. Many of the ideas we cover are ideas that the greatest mathematical minds throughout history took a long time to fully build and understand.
