About Sophie

I have gone beyond my University syllabus by working in my university’s team for the UKSEDS Satellite design challenge (where I worked on the Payload subsystem, to do with detecting small space debris), and the On Board Data Handeling team for “Project VITA,” an Astropharmacy experiment going to the International Space Station!
I’ve also followed 3B1B’s lockdown maths series, completed Futurelearn’s mook “The Discovery of the Higgs Boson,” and spent 5 years attending a local programming / electronics group before University.

All of this allows me to appreciate how maths / physics can be applied in a useful way. I think that this helps with motivation for learning pure maths in a school setting, and am happy to go into details about this if you are interested. I am also happy to ignore all of this if you just want help to pass your exam!

I also play piano and guitar in my spare time. My favourite songs to play are generally related to the band My Chemical Romance.

I am a community garden coordinator for the Conservation and Nature Society at university. I run sessions in the garden on campus, involving crafts, planting and general maintenance. We have also been on litter picks, planted trees, and much more.

I also volunteered as an assistant children’s librarian on Saturdays for about 3 months at my local library.

Lastly, I was a peer mentor for 5 first year Physics students at university. During their first term, I met with them once a week to ensure they were progressing well with their studies, and was available to help with any university related issues they had.

About the lesson

I believe that everyone can be good at maths and science with a good teacher. I will explain concepts slowly and clearly, and use exam questions to verify understanding. I will do my best to explain in a way that makes sense to you, and have had lots of practice doing this for my younger sibling.

I would look to give hour long lessons, but this is flexible. Whatever amount of time works best for you works best for me too!!

I did my A-Levels in 2021 in Maths, Further Maths, Physics, and Computer Science, and achieved 4 A*’s.
I have also achieved at least a first in all University exams taken so far.
