About Natella

I would like to offer my service as a teacher of Russian with over 20 years of experience including 9 years in the UK in a Further Education sector, at mainstream and supplementary schools. As a Russian native-speaker and a Master of Russian Philology (Latvian University) I have profound knowledge of Russian language, literature, culture and history. Working within schools and colleges both in the UK and abroad I manage to captivate, engage and enthuse my students through being creative, hardworking and well-organised. I am also a keen writer and speaker on cultural and educational topics. Two times I became a winner of Latvian competition 'Best teacher of Russian and literature' organised by Latvian Association of teachers of Russian and literature and Russian Embassy in Latvia. Within the last 12 years I have gained experience of working in busy and vibrant educational environments in the UK. I taught Russian at the Brasshouse Language Centre (Further education college), run by Birmingham City Council for 5 years. The students were of all different ages, ethnic origins, backgrounds and abilities, from absolute beginners to advanced level. I also worked as a Russian language assistant at Wolverhampton Girls’ High School with Year 12 and 13 students, helping them to prepare for their AS and A2 speaking exams. In London I am working for the companies such as "Languages in business", "Bruton Lloyd", “Sovcomflot”, Educational Foundation "Znanye" and "Rossotrudnichestvo" as well as offering my service and private tuitions to adults and children of all ages, background, levels and abilities. I do short, medium and long term planning, contribute to design course’s aims and objectives and to development of curriculum. I prepare and deliver lessons using different methods and techniques to meet variety of learning styles, to support students’ needs, meet their expectations and to make studying effective and enjoyable. I always design and prepare a variety of teaching materials and use a wide range of activities to involve and motivate learners: from textbook/paper-based to role plays (sometimes even little drama performances), PowerPoint presentations, Smart Board activities, internet-based tasks, watching films, singing songs etc. Students work as a group, in pairs, small groups and individually. I am consistently monitoring the achievements of pupils including marking their homework, organising different types of assessments for all language skills and all levels and providing constructive feedback to learners. Also I do regular reviews of pupil achievement targets and prepare students for the external EDEXCEL (GCSE and A-level) assessments. All of my learners always succeed and most of them get top marks.
