About Dalton
I help beginners and intermediate players build confidence, sharpen their thinking, and start winning more games — both online and in over-the-board tournaments. I get along really well with kids and people of all ages, and I make lessons fun and easy to follow.
I’m a competitive chess player, 17 years old, with an online rating in the top 1% and serve as team captain and first board for the Riverside Brookfield High School chess team. I regularly study chess literature and analyze games to keep improving, and I bring that same focused, structured approach into every lesson.
As a coach, I focus on more than just moves. We work on how to think during a game, how to spot patterns, and how to stay calm and confident in competitive positions. My goal is to help students enjoy the game while seeing steady, measurable improvement.

I offer one-on-one chess lessons for beginners and intermediate players of all ages. Lessons focus on practical improvement, developing your unique playing style, and helping you gain confidence and results both online and over the board.
Once I identify consistent patterns in your games, I design lessons around your specific strengths and areas for improvement — whether that’s opening ideas, tactical awareness, endgames, or decision-making under pressure.
For students interested in tournaments or competitive play, we also focus on game psychology, managing tilt, and building a simple, effective preparation routine so you can walk into each game feeling confident and ready.
I’m happy to travel up to 20 miles from Riverside for in-person lessons, with a small travel fee to help cover gas and time.
Review
All of our reviews are collected by us and are 100% reliable. They correspond to a real experience lived by students with Dalton.
Perfect! Dalton is professional and intelligent, and intuitive. After playing a humble game, Dalton respectfully analyzed our game, sharing insights and what to work on. Overall, I haven’t enjoyed chess this much since grade school decades ago. I feel as though I’m playing a leisurely game at a park sipping tea. He’s fun, being a good sport when I replaced my king with a queen or knight during a chess puzzle drill.
- Timothy is a very nice person and I enjoyed teaching him chess as he was eager to learn and practices on his own frequently.Dalton's response :

Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
I wanted to improve my chess so I could play more confidently with friends and at the Y. While I had a decent defensive game, I struggled offensively and often made costly mistakes. Dalton quickly identified this and used creative, focused exercises—such as having me practice checkmating his king as efficiently as possible—to strengthen my attacking skills. His coaching made the games more competitive and fun, and my confidence and enjoyment of chess have grown significantly. I highly recommend Dalton as a coach who knows how to make learning both challenging and enjoyable.
I highly recommend Dalton as a an incredible coach. I was completely new to chess and he led through the basic principles within a week of careful instruction. His eye, for the game is truly remarkable and he has and has the right mindset to teach with incredible patience. They say the best teachers are the ones who can make complexities simple, for those reasons I can't recommend Superprof Dalton enough!
