About Dr Helena

My name is Helena and I am a trainee Health Psychologist and a researcher in palliative care. I have two Psychology degrees (BSc and MSc) and a PhD in Public Health. I decided to advertise myself as a Psychology tutor as I am driven to help the next generation of Psychologists, and those who are simply just learning about the subject, reach their full potential and get the grades they need to progress onto the next stage of their careers.

I understand what it is like to struggle with concepts in this area, as during my A level Psychology course I struggled a lot with research methods. However, I employed the skills that I will be using in my tutoring to practise and improve in this area, which got me to the position of completing a PhD and working as a researcher.

I have an up-to-date DBS check and can provide a CV, proof of qualifications, and a reference if needed.

About the lesson

Prior to the first session, I will send out an online form to complete that will ask for areas you are particularly struggling with. Each tutoring session will last an hour and we will work together to decide what we want to address in the session. We will work in a way that works for you, whether going over topics and finding new ways to think about them or completing practice questions together.
These sessions are mostly for those who are completing an A level in Psychology, however please do reach out if you are a GCSE or University student and I will consider this on a case-by-case basis.

My qualifications are:
A level in Psychology (A)
BSc Psychology (2:1)
MSc Health Psychology (Merit)
PhD in Public Health

I am also a trainee Health Psychologist, training via the independent route via the BPS, I aim to qualify early next year. Currently, I work as a research fellow at the University of Leeds, where I put my psychology and research methods skills into practice every day. Prior to starting my PhD, I worked as a tutor for A level Psychology, and can provide a reference if required.

Travel costs only for journeys over 10 minutes one-way from Chorley town centre.

First session: free for 30 minutes, whether you would like a shorter first session to figure out if my teaching style matches you or if you would like the full hour at half the cost.
