About Kristin

I am a passionate Spanish linguist and California-credentialed high school Spanish teacher, dedicated to sharing my profound love for the Spanish language and its rich cultures. I embarked on my language journey at the University of California, Santa Cruz, where I obtained a BA in Spanish Language Studies in 2014. Deepening my knowledge, I immersed myself in the Spanish-speaking world, living in Spain and exploring various Latin American countries from 2013 to 2019. During this time, I acquired a Diploma of Hispanic Studies in Granada, Spain, and pursued an MA in Translation (EnglishSpanish) at the prestigious Middlebury Institute of International Studies in Monterey, CA, graduating in 2018.

Drawing on my diverse experiences, I further expanded my language proficiency by working as a certified medical interpreter, specializing in adult and pediatric mental healthcare. However, my passion for education led me to a transformative decision. In 2019, I relocated to Barcelona, Spain, where I dedicated myself to obtaining a Cambridge CELTA Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, solidifying my pedagogical skills.

Returning to California, I pursued my Spanish Single-Subject Teaching Credential through the esteemed University of San Diego, a pivotal step in my career. Currently, I am a high school Spanish teacher in San Diego, where I empower students with linguistic and cultural competence. Additionally, I continue to contribute to the field as a freelance translator, further enhancing my expertise in language and cultural exchange.

Combining my academic achievements, immersive experiences, and real-world applications, I offer a unique perspective and an enriching learning environment for my students. My goal is not only to foster language proficiency but also to instill a deep appreciation for the diversity and beauty of the Spanish-speaking world. With a dynamic teaching style, incorporating interactive activities, multimedia resources, and cultural insights, I strive to create engaging lesson plans tailored to each student's needs, aspirations, and proficiency level.
