About Mark
Since I left University almost 30 years ago, I have worked on the design and assessment of some of the biggest transport infrastructure projects in the UK and New Zealand. This includes designing road connections to the Tauranga Eastern Link, safety improvements to State Highway 2 between Tauranga and Waihi, and 4-laning Te Ngae Road in Rotorua.
I have a BSc in Geography & Economics (1992), and a MSc in Transportation Planning & Policy (1994). I almost finished a PhD into the environmental impacts of electric cars in 1n 1997 but had to stop when my son was born. Instead, I started my first job as a transport planner in the UK where I worked on a wide variety of transport projects and strategies in the first decade of my professional career.
In 2012 I left the UK with my family to work for the New Zealand Transport Agency (Waka Kotahi). Since I left NZTA in 2021, I have been working for Lets Get Wellington Moving (LGWM), Hauraki District Council and Whakatane District Council on other transport projects.

I like to take the time to get to know each pupil, particularly their learning strengths and weaknesses. Then I draw on my own experience to design lessons in the subjects that they want to focus on, using techniques likely to be well suited to them.
My only recent experience as a tutor was giving driving lessons to teenagers for BlueLight in Tauranga. I also led seminars for undergraduate engineering students whilst researching my PhD 30 years ago.
I am flexible on lesson length, and I think I would be well suited to teaching maths, geography, economics and statistics at secondary and tertiary education level
