About Edward
With over 30 years of experience in performing in a wide variety of settings on the trombone, euphonium, and tuba, as well as hundreds of hours arranging all genres of music from stage and screen to jazz, pop, classical, opera and chamber music, I have a wealth of knowledge to share with students of all levels in low brass performance, arranging and orchestration. I studied trombone at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, hold a Postgraduate Certificate of Education, and run my own brass ensemble, for which I arrange all the music. I can teach trombone, bass trombone, baritone, euphonium, and tuba to students of all ages. I can also tutor in arranging and orchestration for brass ensemble, brass band, concert band, and orchestra.

I am an experienced trombone teacher based in Pinner with a wealth of knowledge to share. I work primarily with intermediate to advanced trombonists.
I focus on practical solutions to problems with technique and mastery of the finer points of trombone performance. To get the best out of my teaching, it's reecommended that weekly 1-hour lessons are reinforced with a minimum of 30 minutes of daily individual practice.
In the first lesson, I spend time discussing the student's musical interests and aspirations, how lessons are structured around fundamentals, such as breathing, articulation, and range extension. Teaching typically takes place at my house, where the student should bring a fully functioning instrument and mouthpiece, as well as whatever materials they have been using previously.

Perfect! My son was in specialist music school and will be beginning his studies at the Royal College of Music in September, so we booked some lessons over the summer. He has found his lessons with Edward extremely useful and feels that Edward is really helping him to develop his playing.
- George is a keen, enthusiastic pupil and clearly enjoys the trombone. He has already mastered the essentials of the instrument, so now it is time to focus on polishing aspects of his performance and preparing for the demands of student life at music college. He has worked hard on the points I’ve mentioned and made excellent progress. Practice time is like money in the bank!Edward's response :

I’m a fellow musician who knows how passionate Ed is about music and he’s great as a tutor because of his logical way of explaining things and his good sense of humour. Can highly recommend!
Edward is a qualified (PGCE) teacher and trombonist with over thirty years of playing experience. His professionalism is exemplary, and his ability to motivate, educate and inspire his pupils with energetic enthusiasm is admirable. Any aspiring trombonist would count themselves lucky to find such a personable, good-humoured authority on their instrument to teach them. His knowledge of music theory is equally thorough.
