About Jonathan
Hello there! I specialise in tutoring English literature, having obtained a first-class degree in the subject. I have tutored biology and chemistry, up to A-Level standard, for the past two years. My tutoring style varies between the subjects. When teaching the sciences, I focus on reviewing past papers and mark schemes. Additionally, I will often make up 'wrong' answers to exam questions and ask tutees to spot the errors and mistakes. I find that this often pre-empts tutees from making similar common errors. With English literature and English language, I use a 'building-block' approach. I tend to first focus on teaching the basics of literary devices and essay structure before building upon this into deeper discussions on literary material and higher-level points. In addition to my years of tutoring experience, I spent a year working for an organisation which focuses on motivating and mentoring students to apply for jobs in the city. Through this, I've realised the most important thing I can do as a tutor is to help my tutees realise their own capability.
