About Julia
I tutor grades 3–7 in Common Core math, reading comprehension, foundational writing and grammar, critical thinking, homework support, and study skills. I especially enjoy teaching math and helping students move from “I can’t do this” to feeling capable and confident. I have over seven years of volunteer tutoring experience in literacy and math, in addition to professional tutoring experience through Marin-based tutoring organizations. I earned a dual Master’s degree (MPP/MPH) from University of Michigan and a B.S. from UCLA.

One of my greatest strengths as a tutor is my ability to connect with children and understand how they learn best. Every student’s brain works differently, and I focus on figuring out the best approach to help each child feel engaged, confident, and successful. Sometimes that means using games or visuals, sometimes it means slowing concepts down into smaller pieces, and other times it simply means recognizing when a child needs encouragement and a reset before moving forward. I prioritize clear explanations, patience, and helping students build confidence in their academic abilities.
