About Shekinah
Hi I'm Shekinah, I'm a second year pharmaceutical student and I'm 19 years old. I enjoy tutoring as it helps people who feel like they are lost in school. Children often feel like they are falling behind and no one is really offering the help that they need. I want to offer that supplement for the in school teaching that they need. A lot of students who may be seen as struggling just needed an extra few hours a week of 1:1 time with a teacher to go from a grade 3 or 4 to a grade 7 even an 8. I want to make learning more digestible to children so they can pay attention and feel like they understand and can recall it. I think having someone teach them who is closer to their age can also help as they feel like I can understand them more and tailor my teaching style to how they are and how they learn.

I like to go over what the student feels they are struggling with most, their specific gaps, what they feel that they are more okay with and what they don't need assistance with. I make a note of that and give them a quick quiz to see for myself if that all applies. I ask the student what they don't understand: if it's the teaching style, the amount of information given all at once or maybe they just aren't retaining the knowledge. Using the results I see where they are weakest and what the curriculum needs are and start there. I break down the information into more digestible chunks so that they understand processes more and can make further connections using them. I am interactive with my students, making sure they are engaged, understand and put in the effort that can sometimes be hard if unsure. My lessons are specifically for GCSE, but it can be for any aged pupil or person wanting to learn. Lessons are typically 1 hour and 30 minutes but can be stretched to 2 hours if necessary for the student
