About Madilyn

I graduated high school as an AP scholar (7 total courses) and did a semester of college in the Honors program at King University. I also served as a TA during this semester. I’ve served as a tutor for a nine year old homeschool student for the past year in Math, English, and Social Studies. I took and passed the AP exams in Human Geography, US History, Psychology, US Government, English Language, and English Literature. I passed the AP Statistics class, but not the AP exam itself. I’ve always enjoyed and thrived in English, the Humanities, and Social Sciences. Over the past year, tutoring has proven itself very rewarding. I enjoy helping others learn and look forward to working with more students!

About the lesson

I do my best to make lessons fun but still worth while. I believe it’s important to tailor the lesson to each child depending on the topic and promise to do my best in this. Everyone learns differently and at different rates and that’s alright. I also try to focus on getting students more comfortable with independent work. While children don’t necessarily have much real responsibility, it’s still important to teach them independence and self-efficacy. I’m always ready to answer questions and encourage they be asked, but want to emphasize these skills now so they have them later in life when they really matter. I’m also a firm believer in doing your own work. I am happy to walk your child through the problem as many times, in as many different ways, as needed for them to understand, so long as they are the ones doing the work. I don’t believe in handing out answers all the time when we’re there to learn. I think the basics are super important for math specifically and that a student is much more likely to struggle without a good foundation of basic principles.
