Learning should be fun, inspiring and confidence-building — not something a child simply has to get through!

I’m a passionate, highly experienced educator with 23 years of teaching experience in England and internationally, including Cambridge, London, Suffolk and Bangkok. I hold a PGCE from England, MPHIL in Children’s Literature at the University of Cambridge, and a recent IB PYP qualification.

I specialize in making learning engaging, creative and personal. Whether your child needs extra support, wants to catch up, build confidence or be challenged further, I tailor every session to their individual learning style and interests.

With experience in Early Years through Primary, and leadership roles in Literacy, Humanities and R.E., I can support reading, phonics, writing, English, comprehension, math, critical thinking and school readiness and full support and guidance with homework.

My approach is warm, encouraging and energetic — combining games, stories, conversation, creativity and purposeful learning to help students feel successful.

My goal? Happy learners who believe: “I can do this!”

Expert Teaching. Creative Learning. Real Confidence.

I’m Tessa, an experienced Educator with 23 years of teaching experience across the UK and Internationally, working with learners from Early Years through Primary and KS2, as well as Adults developing their English and communication skills.

My Academic background includes an MPhil in Critical Approaches to Children’s Literature from the University of Cambridge, alongside my Teaching qualifications and IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) training.

I have also held Leadership roles in Literacy, Humanities and tailored Curriculum development, giving me a strong understanding of how children learn, where they can become stuck and, importantly, how to help them move forward in small, manageable steps.

I bring something a little different to just tutoring. My passion for Children’s Literature, Creativity, Poetry and the Arts means I love making learning imaginative, meaningful and memorable. My creative work has included published writing, Exhibitions and theatre collaborations with the BBC and Royal Court Theatre.

My Teaching Approach

I believe the best learning happens when students feel safe, interested, challenged and genuinely encouraged.

Every learner is different, so I tailor sessions to their individual needs, personality, interests and goals. I combine clear teaching and structured progression with conversation, stories, questioning, creativity, games and practical activities.

I particularly focus on building the confidence to have a go, make mistakes and try again. Alongside developing academic skills, I want learners to become increasingly independent, motivated and confident in their own abilities and personal lines of inquiry.

I Can Support With
Children:

Phonics • Early Reading • Blending • Reading & Comprehension • SATS, Writing • Spelling • Vocabulary • Creative Writing • Primary English • 11 plus Exam. Homework Support.
Confidence & Motivation.

Adults:

English Development • Reading & Writing • Speaking & Listening • Communication • Vocabulary • Confidence using English. CV and Job/Interview Preparation.

Whether a learner needs to catch up, consolidate, stretch themselves or simply rediscover their enjoyment of learning, I bring expertise, support, encouragement, creativity and genuine encouragement to every session.

My goal is simple: meaningful progress, greater confidence and a learner who starts to believe, “I can do this.”

Learning is an adventure!

Together, we’ll explore, create, and build confidence. I’ll tailor each session to your unique interests and style, ensuring you feel inspired and excited.

Let’s embark on this journey and discover how capable you truly are!

I look forward to hearing from you soon.
