About Mikela
I am a PhD student in clinical psychology at University of Washington, minoring in Quantitative Methods and Applied Psychometrics. I was previously on the academic engineering route (Bachelor of Science in Astronautical Engineering, Mathematics Minor; Master of Science in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering) and shifted my career focus. I’ve had years of cumulative experience tutoring, starting when I was in grade school. I am always open to feedback and having transparent, curious conversations about anything that benefits the student’s learning. My career goal is to be a full professor in academia. I abide by all ethical standards required as a clinician.

I love working with students! It brings me joy to see them advance and reach their learning/educational goals. Tutoring is about working together toward the student’s goals. We want to identify where skills/knowledge can be supported, do the learning to fill those gaps, and tailor approaches to optimize learning progress whenever needed. Also, test anxiety and math anxiety are real and not uncommon, so incorporating strategies to address that anxiety is another key. Each student’s learning journey is unique to them - there are no right/wrong paths, and many individual factors go into learning (e.g., learning disabilities, ADHD), so it's important to tailor sessions to each student’s individual learning needs.
