About Peter
Hi! I'm Peter, a third-year Biochemical Engineering student at the University of British Columbia with a strong passion for science, problem-solving, and helping students succeed. With years of experience in chemistry, organic chemistry, algebra, and math, I aim to make these subjects not just understandable but enjoyable. Raised in Ontario with Egyptian roots, I grew up trilingual, having English as my first language and having completed 10 years of French immersion and speaking some Arabic (though a little rusty!). My love for exploration extends beyond academics—I enjoy fishing, playing guitar, hiking, and woodworking, and I’m always eager to learn about different cultures. As a tutor, I take a patient, structured, and engaging approach, ensuring that students not only grasp concepts but also gain the confidence to tackle challenges on their own. Whether you're struggling with equations, need help reviewing for a big exam, or want to strengthen your understanding, I'm here to support you every step of the way. I believe that everyone has the potential to excel, and my goal is to provide the right guidance and techniques to unlock that success. Let's make learning an exciting and rewarding experience together!

My Tutoring Approach
Teaching Methodology & Techniques:
I focus on a concept-first approach, ensuring students understand the "why" behind topics before moving to problem-solving. I integrate real-life examples, particularly from biochemical engineering, to make abstract concepts relatable. My sessions are interactive, with a mix of visual aids, problem-based learning, and active recall techniques to reinforce memory retention.
A Typical Lesson Plan:
1. Quick Review (5-10 min) – Recap of previous lessons or assessment of current understanding.
2. Concept Breakdown (15-20 min) – Clear explanation of key topics using diagrams, analogies, and step-by-step breakdowns.
3. Guided Problem Solving (20-30 min) – Work through practice problems together, demonstrating techniques and strategies.
4. Student-Led Practice (10-15 min) – The student attempts problems independently with feedback and corrections.
5. Q&A and Summary (5-10 min)– Clarify doubts and summarize key takeaways.
What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor:
- Engineering Perspective – I bring a strong STEM background, making even the toughest topics engaging.
- Adaptive Teaching Style– I tailor my approach based on each student's strengths and learning preferences.
- Encouraging & Patient – I foster a positive learning environment, ensuring students feel comfortable asking questions.
- Exam & Study Strategies– I help students develop effective study habits, note-taking techniques, and test-taking strategies.
Who the Lessons Are For:
- Middle school to high school students
- Students taking chemistry, organic chemistry, algebra, and general math
- Those needing help with homework, test preparation, or foundational understanding
