About Sheila
I am currently in my 4th year at UBC studying microbiology & immunology. I'm currently on co-op/internship as a clinical research assistant for a lab at BC Children's Hospital. My passion lies within empowering different vulnerable communities. I have held executive positions with the Science Undergraduate Society, UBC Heart & Stroke Foundation, UBC Cancer Association & the Vietnamese Student Association. My goal is to empower more student leaders to recognize their potential and that's something I translate into my tutoring.
I'm also passionate about global health. As an undergraduate volunteer for the Global Surgery Lab I've had the amazing opportunity to observe cadaver labs and create modules for an online surgical training program, aimed to build capacity in lower and middle income countries.
On my free time I like to watch shows & anime, go hiking, bake, go to the gym and read.

Every student responds to teaching styles different. I would first try to figure out the type that is most suitable for my student instead of imposing a blanket methodology on my students. After figuring out a solid approach, we would go into learning the material. I always aim to encourage learning and understanding the fundamentals instead of just memorizing the content.
The best way to learn is through practice questions and spaced repetition. I always emphasize interactive lessons where my student is doing a lot of practice to solidify their understanding instead of just listening to me about the content.
Lessons are for: Early university level, high school or middle school.
