About Iona

Hi, my name is Iona and I attend King's College London Postgraduate Medicine Course!. I scored in the top 7% of candidates for the UCAT 2023. I hold a BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Sciences from University of Birmingham and MRes (Hons) in Biomedical Research from Imperial College London. I have extensive experience writing dissertations, outlining scientific methodology, critically analysing and interpreting results. I understand both the stress of sitting exams and the pressure to succeed. We will face this together. I aim to provide support throughout your academic journey and bring to the forefront your potential Through my interactive sessions I aim to empower you and enhance your abilities to give you a competitive streak which will help your application stand out. I have extensive tutoring experience across all ages working with students of all educational needs including ADHD, Autism and Dyslexia. I aim to assess your style of learning and adapt my lessons to suit your needs. I have consistently received positive feedback from the students I've taught. I have an Enhanced DBS Certificate, dated 2022. Let's get started!

About the lesson

UCAT TUTORING OFFERED - 1 hour session to assess your current strengths/weaknesses and ascertain which areas need the most improvement. This will act as a guide for my lesson planning. - Verbal Reasoning = learn tips on how to allocate time during this section to score the most points, strengthening your ability to speed read and rapidly identify what a question is asking, where to look in the text and how to distinguish the answer. - Decision Making = learn tips on how to allocate time during this section, how to solve syllogisms, logic puzzles, Venn diagrams and probability. - Quantitative Reasoning = tips on tackling common maths problems, increasing speed through calculator use and mental maths. - Abstract Reasoning = learn key patterns which repeatedly come up, method for rapidly analysing a question to get the answer right. - Situational Judgement = guidance through key ethical concepts, detailed understanding of common medical incidents and how best to respond. PERSONAL STATEMENT GUIDANCE OFFERED - Guidance on how to tackle the structure which is most favoured by examiners. - Assessing your background and experiences and providing advice on what to include to help your application stand out. - I will review several drafts as you progress, guiding you on how to enhance your writing - I also offer a proof-reading service. If your statement is more-or-less complete and just needs a fresh pair of eyes, I can do that for you.
