About Cathal
I’m Cathal, a Computer Science student at UCC with four years of experience giving math grinds.
I achieved 577 points in my Leaving Cert and have continued working with math throughout my degree. I enjoy helping students understand topics that initially seem difficult or confusing.
Because I completed the Leaving Cert recently, I understand the pressure students face and the way math is currently taught and examined. I try to keep lessons relaxed, clear and practical, while still making sure we make steady progress.
I’m patient and happy to explain a topic in different ways until it clicks. I work with both Junior Cycle and Leaving Cert students and adapt my approach depending on the student’s level, goals and confidence.

My lessons are built around the student and the areas they find most difficult.
I explain topics clearly and step by step, then work through examples before moving on to exam-style questions. I focus on helping students understand why a method works, rather than simply memorizing steps.
Lessons can cover:
• Difficult topics from class
• Homework and past exam questions
• Junior Cycle and Leaving Cert exam preparation
• Improving problem-solving and exam technique
• Building confidence in weaker areas
I adapt the pace and difficulty of each lesson to the student. If a topic needs more time, we stay with it until it makes sense. If the student is already comfortable, we move on to more challenging questions.
My aim is for students to leave each lesson understanding the topic better and knowing how to approach similar questions on their own.
