About Cheryl
I hold three degrees in quantitative disciplines: a B.E. in Software Engineering from Beihang University, an M.S. in Financial Systems Engineering from University College London, and an M.S. in Applied Analytics from Columbia University, where I maintain a 4.0 GPA and was awarded a Merit Fellowship. I also earned a perfect 170/170 on the GRE Quantitative section and passed CFA Level II. These achievements reflect not only strong subject mastery, but also the disciplined, analytical thinking and problem-solving approach I strive to instill in my students.
My teaching experience began at New Oriental School, where I taught students ages 12 to 17, designed lesson plans, differentiated instruction for mixed-ability classrooms, and provided individualized academic support. Beyond education, I spent several years in banking and finance — including leading an account team at China Merchants Bank and later working in data engineering and analytics. This background allows me to help students connect what they learn in the classroom to real-world applications in technology, finance, and data-driven decision-making.
I am patient, organized, and bilingual in English and Mandarin, with extensive experience working with learners from diverse backgrounds. As a mother of three, I also deeply understand how students learn and what helps them stay engaged, confident, and motivated. When students work with me, they gain not only strong academic guidance, but also a mentor who genuinely cares about their growth, confidence, and long-term success.

I teach Mathematics, Algebra, Calculus, and Statistics through real-world, intuitive problem-solving — not memorization. As a Columbia and UCL graduate (4.0 GPA, perfect 170/170 GRE) with a background in software engineering, data analytics, and banking, I show students how these concepts actually work in practice.
Each lesson starts by pinpointing where you're stuck, explains the new concept with clear examples, then moves into guided practice until it clicks. My approach is patient, organized, and focused on real understanding.
Lessons are for middle school, high school, and early university students who want to raise their grades, prep for exams, or finally feel confident with numbers. Beginners and advanced learners both welcome.
