About Elisa
I’m a First year student studying chemical engineering who enjoys helping others understand things that once felt difficult. I discovered my love for teaching early on by helping my younger brother with his schoolwork. Seeing his progress over time was incredibly rewarding and showed me how much I enjoy explaining ideas clearly and patiently.
Another reason I want to teach is my own experience moving between different education systems. Studying in both the English and French systems showed me that there isn’t just one “right” way to solve a problem. That flexibility allows me to explain maths in different ways, which is especially helpful for students who don’t learn through traditional methods.
Above all, I want to teach because I enjoy being part of someone else’s progress. Whether through babysitting, dance, or maths, helping younger students gain confidence and improve has always been something I find motivating and fulfilling.

When planning my lessons, my main focus is accessibility. I design each session so that students who may feel disconnected from maths or education can still see themselves succeeding. I start from what the students already know and build up slowly, so nothing feels rushed or overwhelming.
I always begin with simple, real-life examples. This helps students relate abstract ideas to things they recognise, making maths feel less intimidating and more relevant. Using the same example throughout the explanation keeps the core idea clear and avoids confusion.
My lessons are structured step by step. I prioritise the basics first, then gradually move towards application once understanding is secure. I include short, straightforward questions early on to check comprehension and adjust my explanations if needed.
Finally, I plan my lessons to feel like a discussion rather than a lecture. I make it clear that questions are encouraged and mistakes are part of learning. Creating a calm and supportive atmosphere is essential for building confidence, especially for students who may not initially see higher education as an option for them.
