Started tutoring at the grassroots level for A level and GCSE for over three years, have been tutoring 11+ and secondary education entrance education for over 5.
I am focused on the individual learning needs of the person rather than a strict teaching methodology, plastering over cracks of the gaps of knowledge a student may have as each student will have their own unique problems with their subject. I strongly prioritise understanding over memorisation, for example when it comes to Mathematics there are many equations you need to apply, with me you will be focusing on the derivations and proofs of why these equations work not just computing them. This combined with practice questions will have my students learning actively rather than passively and will build a bulletproof understanding of the pitfalls and exceptions to the rules which is required for the jump from an A to an A*. The typical length of sessions can go from 1-2 hours and may overrun as I believe in striking while the iron is hot and not to let it cool down and let a topic eat in to the next session.
I also provide University admissions advice ranging from personal statements to choosing courses. Advice is tailored to the student and combines their passions with pragmatism, taking admissions rates of their specific courses into account as well as their unique profile as an applicant. I also undertook admissions tests such as the UCAT (2750/ 75th percentile) and I know how stressful the application period can be as a student, especially for selective courses such as medicine, computer science and economics which require further testing and a multiplex of unique admissions processes for each university. I also undertook the ACT (31/ 91st percentile) and can help navigate the US application cycle as well.
