About Chasia

Hi there! I'm Chasia. I completed my undergraduate studies at UCLA and received my Master's degree from Teachers College, Columbia University. I have been a teacher and tutor for 10+ years. I have worked with students of all ages in many subjects, such as ACT/SAT/GRE/AP/TOEFL test prep, compulsory math, chemistry, reading comprehension, ESL, and social studies. As a prior Director of Student Success and Lead Teacher at an education company, I managed the individualized learning programs of hundreds of students and designed curricula to promote students' critical literacy development. Meanwhile, I also taught 100+ students of my own in one-on-one and small class settings.

These experiences have shaped and refined my teaching style and my commitment to a learner-centered approach. Whether you are seeking support in elementary math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Geometry, or Algebra II, I am ready and excited to partner with you in your learning journey and give you the tools to confidently achieve your goals.

About the lesson

My teaching philosophy is simple: every student is unique, so I prepare my lessons around your strengths, interests, areas for improvement, and learning style. I will make sure that:

• You feel challenged but also feel safe to make mistakes;
• You actively grapple with new concepts and skills in ways that are meaningful and logical to you — and ultimately discover how you learn best;
• You realize that you have invaluable insight and bring unique perspective (the classroom isn’t just about the teacher and her knowledge!)
• You are empowered to take ownership of your own learning, and
• You feel confident to use the tools you gained to continue learning outside the classroom!

Channeling years of advanced training and expertise in learner-centered instruction, I provide comprehensive support to middle and high school students in compulsory maths, nurturing curiosity through critical thinking and helping to unlock their ability to become their own best teacher. I infuse all my lessons with guidance in study skills and executive functioning so that you not only master the content efficiently and durably, but you also become a fundamentally better learner for life!
