About Haley

I am an MCAT Psychology & Sociology tutor with a strong academic and research-based background in the behavioral sciences. I earned my B.S. in Psychobiology from UCLA and my Master of Public Health (MPH) in Community Health Promotion from USC, where I developed a deep understanding of how psychological, social, and biological factors influence health and behavior.

I currently work as a Clinical Research Assistant, administering neuropsychological assessments as part of a cognitive research study. Through this role, I regularly engage with the same psychological concepts, research methods, and data interpretation skills that are emphasized on the MCAT. This experience allows me to teach the material with clarity, accuracy, and real-world relevance.

As a tutor, I am professional, organized, and student-centered. I take time to understand each student’s goals, strengths, and areas for improvement, and I tailor my approach accordingly. I place a strong emphasis on conceptual understanding, critical thinking, and test-taking strategy, helping students feel confident applying their knowledge rather than relying solely on memorization.

I am committed to creating a supportive and respectful learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. My goal is to help students not only improve their MCAT performance, but also build confidence in their understanding of psychology and sociology as they prepare for careers in healthcare.

About the lesson

My approach to tutoring MCAT Psychology & Sociology is concept-driven, structured, and highly personalized. Rather than relying on memorization alone, I help students understand how and why psychological and sociological concepts are tested, so they can apply their knowledge confidently to unfamiliar passages.

Each lesson typically begins with a quick check-in to identify goals for the session and any areas of confusion. From there, we review high-yield content using clear explanations, visual frameworks, and real-world examples to strengthen understanding. I then guide students through MCAT-style practice questions, teaching them how to analyze passages, interpret study designs, and recognize common traps. Every session ends with a brief recap and a clear plan for what to practice independently.

What sets me apart as a tutor is my strong academic foundation combined with real-world clinical research experience. With a background in Psychobiology and Public Health, and current work administering neuropsychological assessments in a research setting, I regularly apply the same concepts tested on the MCAT. This allows me to explain material in a way that feels intuitive, practical, and easier to retain. I also emphasize creating a supportive, low-pressure environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and working through mistakes.

My lessons are well suited for first-time MCAT takers and retakers, particularly students who feel overwhelmed by the Psychology & Sociology section, struggle with passage-based questions, or want to improve consistency and confidence. I tailor sessions to each student’s learning style and stage in the MCAT process.
