UCSB Grad with many years of experience tutoring *Math*Science*Spanish* -- COVID safe, located in SB

Methodology

I hope to be approachable, knowledgeable, warm, and helpful. I meet each student with patience and compassion and aim to give them strong foundational skills. A normal session would go as follows: Hi, how are you?, any urgent questions or topics to cover?, explain/ review material together, answer questions and go over any confusing concepts, practice with plenty of examples, have fun with some games to check our knowledge, gain insight and confidence. I hope to make students feel focused, proud, and accomplished while also having fun, laughing, and expanding their minds.

Background

I'm a recent graduate of UCSB (non-traditional student), where I studied physical geography (similar to environmental studies/ Earth science/ anthropology/ mapping/ cartography/ oceans and atmosphere). I have several years of experience tutoring: *MATH* (algebra, calculus, geometry, trigonometry, etc.; received AP Calc BC Score: 5/5 in 2011), *SCIENCE* (physics, chemistry, biology), and *SPANISH* (all levels; non-native speaker; received AP Spanish Language Score: 5/5 in 2011). I love to share knowledge and information -- it’s like story-telling + completing mental games/puzzles. My first teaching job in high school was working as a tennis coach in Manhattan Beach, CA instructing kids ages 4-9. I also helped elementary school students develop reading and writing skills as a volunteer at William Green Elementary School in Lawndale, CA. Additionally, I have experience tutoring both high school and university students in Spanish and calculus (which was invented to track planets in space for ocean navigation!). I have taken nearly all lower division math and physics courses offered at UCSB as part of my Bachelor of Science degree. For fun I like to: SCUBA dive, practice yoga (I’m a certified instructor), read outside, cook yummy food, and bake mini muffins -- my newest quarantine hobby). I am located in ~Santa Barbara~ and I practice COVID safety (virtual/Zoom or outdoor + masked sessions/meetings).
