I believe in establishing a strong foundation by assessing the level of effort required for students to master each concept. This helps me tailor my teaching approach accordingly. Drawing from my experience of teaching friends, I have developed effective strategies to simplify complex problems, making mathematics easier to grasp. I employ the same approach in my lessons, introducing students to various Vedic mathematics techniques that stimulate their mental growth and equip them to excel in future competitions. To provide students with an early understanding, I create custom questions and incorporate relevant ones from past exam papers. This approach enables students to gain familiarity with the subject matter and prepares them for effective time management. Regular assessments play a crucial role in my teaching methodology. By periodically evaluating my students, I ensure their comfort with the concepts and identify areas that require additional attention or reinforcement.

Find out more about Vanshika

  • When and why did you develop an interest in your chosen field?

My interest in mathematics and computer science started early, but it became much stronger during high school when I began studying advanced math and calculus. I found myself especially drawn to calculus because of how logically everything connects—how complex problems can be broken down into clear, structured steps. This interest continued at UBC, where I studied Computer Science and Data Science and also deepened my understanding of physics and higher-level mathematics. Over time, I became especially passionate about using math as a foundation for problem-solving in both theoretical and real-world applications.
  • What makes you passionate about your subject?

I’m passionate about math, calculus, physics, and computer science because they all share one thing in common: they reward deep understanding and logical thinking. I particularly enjoy calculus because it feels like the language behind change and motion—it explains how systems evolve in a precise and elegant way. I also enjoy the challenge of physics because it connects abstract equations to real-world behavior. What excites me most is seeing how these subjects come together in areas like algorithms, data science, and AI, where theory directly translates into impact.
  • What do you like about tutoring? What makes you a "Superprof"?

I enjoy tutoring because it allows me to take subjects that are often seen as difficult—like calculus, physics, or advanced math—and make them intuitive and approachable. I focus on building true understanding rather than memorization, helping students see patterns and logic instead of just formulas.
What makes me a “Superprof” is my ability to adapt explanations to different learning styles and break down complex topics into simple, step-by-step reasoning. Having achieved top academic performance—including receiving an undergraduate academic award across faculties in my second year for scoring 100% in all levels of advanced calculus courses, just by my 2nd year. I also bring a strong academic foundation and proven mastery of the subjects I teach.
  • Do you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you? Please explain.

Yes, I’ve been inspired by several professors and teaching assistants during my time at UBC, especially in mathematics and computer science. The best ones had a way of making difficult concepts in calculus and physics feel intuitive rather than intimidating. They didn’t just focus on answers—they emphasized understanding the reasoning behind every step. That approach influenced my own tutoring style: I aim to make students comfortable with complexity by building strong conceptual foundations first, especially in subjects like calculus where intuition is key.
  • What are your keys to success?

My keys to success are consistency, deep understanding, and curiosity. In subjects like math, calculus, and physics, I believe success comes from truly understanding core principles rather than memorizing shortcuts. I also value practice with purpose—solving problems while actively learning from mistakes. Another important factor for me is clarity of thinking; I always try to simplify complex ideas into their most fundamental form, which helps both in learning and teaching others effectively.
