About Jon
I work remote here in New York City, and manage a team of salespeople for a large technology company. We specialize in website analytics and insights for large brands and retailers, like Target/Walmart and PepsiCo and Hershey. I went to college in North Carolina, and received an undergraduate degree in Marketing Strategy, and double-minored in Spanish and Pre-Law. While I don't use the minors in my current job, those were some of my favorite classes in college and I definitely do not regret them. I then continued my education in graduate school and have a master's in business analytics, which I do utilize quite a bit in my job. In grad school, I learned multiple coding languages, data visualization and transformation, and how best to be a medium between an analyst team and presenting to executives and other decision makers, using data to tell an effective story or make informed decisions. Outside of work, I play soccer and am a runner, as well as play beach volleyball and snowboard. I love to stay active, but also love to read and play video games.

I spend a large amount of time in the beginning understanding the current knowledge base of the students that I am working with. What is working well in your study habits, where are some consistencies in knowledge gaps, and what types of problems are you having the most trouble. I then create a plan of problems and plans that gradually work through those difficulties from easy to hard, spending time after each section on things that were done well, and where needs improvement. I explain the importance of writing down your thought process on each problem to truly determine where the errors might begin, but walk through a solution or a mistake with patience and understanding, since I know math is not everyone's strong suit. There is never any judgment or condescension in my teaching or tutoring, everyone has gifts and talents, and while math might not be one of theirs, I will do everything I can to ensure that they are understanding the problems put in front of them and will feel more confident about any area of math that they are working through.
