About Denis
Hiya, I'm Denis, an undergrad at the University of Bath currently studying Biomedical Sciences. I've consistently been a high achiever throughout GCSEs and A Levels, achieving 11 Grade 9s, 2A*s and an A at A-Levels. I've also achieved an A* in an EPQ, having written an 10,000 word dissertation on the topic of parasitic pathogens. This is all to say that I'm not only a high achiever, but also genuinely enthusiastic when it comes to scientiifc subjects.

- The main focus of my lessons revolves around ensuring that the content is not only memorised but also understood. A lot of students fall into the trap of assuming that they can achieve a high GCSE grade simply by memorising mark schemes, but without the ability to engage with the subject and understand its intricacies, they often find themselves struggling to answer questions simply because they're different to previous years.
- I will however still go over mark schemes and common questions, ensuring that the tutee understands how to utilise their knowledge to answer questions that frequently come up in GCSEs and make up the bulk of the marks. While I highlighted the importance of understanding the content, it's equally as important to know how your exam board requires you to word your answers.
- Lessons will typically last from 60 minutes to 90 minutes depending on the complexity of the given topic
- Experience with teaching/directing younger students as a trained peer mentor
- Lessons are aimed towards students in Year 9 onwards, up to Year 11.
- A typical lesson will involve me explicitly asking the student what topic they feel they're struggling on ahead of time before identifying exactly which aspects of the topic the student finds confusing during the lesson. I prefer this approach for advanced tutees, however if the student feels like they'd rather go general fundamental concepts before moving onto specific topics, that's entirely fine.
