About Tom
I am a 4th year medical student at Oxford University and really enjoy revisiting topics and concepts and attempting to explain these to others. I am a great believer in the Feynman technique of learning, reviewing concepts and demonstrating understanding through your ability to explain it to others and so will look to employ a 'teach the teacher' style once we have visited and reviewed a topic.
I achieved 12A*s (or better!) at GCSE and A*A*A (Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology) at A levels as well as an A in AS Further Mathematics.
Outside of academia, I love sports and I'm a massive rugby fan and appreciate there is much more to life than studying. That's why I always strive to work smarter and not necessarily harder; it is much more about the quality of the work you do than the sheer number of hours you commit.

Lessons will usually consist of 1hr sessions conducted over Zoom (at no detriment to the quality of sessions).
During 6th Form I volunteered in Year 10 Biology and Year 7 Mathematics lessons as well as mentored AS and GCSE level biologists and chemists on a weekly basis. From this I learnt of the importance of explaining topics at varying levels of depths according to the required understanding of different students and is something I have carried forward with me. I love to use analogies and funky memory aids and tools in order to help difficult concepts stick. In addition to this, by encouraging students to take an active role in their education and prompting them to identify aspects within their syllabus that they struggle with they will become more well rounded within their subject.
I am a big advocate for spaced repetition and active recall and will regularly look to use these in sessions.
Since leaving school I have also taken part in mentoring schemes such as Zero Gravity and so am used to providing students with the tools needed to make the step up to University.
I am able to tutor all the way from KS2 all the way through to A Levels in Mathematics and Sciences (Biology and Chemistry), as well as Physics up to GCSE.
