About Kate
*ADHD-friendly tutoring methods!*
As someone with ADHD, I recognize that students have a wide variety of learning styles, so lessons should be tailored to the individual! I have a variety of tools and recommendations to help students who struggle with studying, note-taking, time management, and attention fatigue.
I am currently an undergraduate astrophysics student with a 4.0 GPA and my sights set on a NASA career. But once upon a time in high school, I was a straight C student... with the exception of math. I discovered a love of math after I experienced a slow, gentle teaching style that was much easier for me to digest than the previous years of strict, regimented, fast-paced learning.
I realized that success in math has little to do with the natural talent of the individual student, and far more to do with the ability of the teacher to convey the concepts. As a tutor, I strive to never assume my students are at a certain level; this is how challenges get missed. You should never feel embarrassed about missing fundamental knowledge--that's my job to fill in!
All you need to bring to the table is the desire and willingness to improve. With a little (or a lot) of practice, *everyone* can succeed at math!

My philosophy is that everyone can be successful at math; it's a skill that can be practiced and honed.
Difficulty with math is generally due to previous holes in a student's learning. Learning math is as sequential as learning a new language--if you miss fundamental steps along the way, your foundation won't support your new growth, and you'll always feel as though you're getting more and more behind.
My tutoring method focuses on identifying and correcting these holes in previous learning in order to build a stronger foundation going forward. Missing parts of your math knowledge is nothing to be ashamed of; I will help you identify these challenging areas, simplify and reframe them for your specific learning style, and guide you in practicing these skills until they become second nature.
I am currently tutoring high school and college pre-algebra and algebra, up to basic trigonometry. High school geometry also available.
